The professional figure of the support teacher is based both on a broad and precise knowledge of disciplinary and theoretical aspects, and on the ability to apply this knowledge to the school context, in particular with students, in a continuous balance between theoretical knowledge and empirical data.
To this end, the text is structured into the following four parts:
Part I – Inclusion regulations (Regulatory, organizational and governance area) which analyses the regulations of the inclusion school, the working groups for inclusion and disability, the programming and design of educational interventions and the PEI;
Part II – Psychopedagogy and learning (Psychopedagogical and didactic field) which deals with the phases of cognitive, affective and social development, with in-depth analysis of the processes, environments and contexts of relationships and learning;
Part III – Disability, teaching methodologies and inclusion (Scope of knowledge of disability and other BES in a bio-psycho-social logic), referring to both the normative and psycho-pedagogical and didactic aspects concerning disabilities, developmental disorders and special educational needs (DSA, foreigners, other BES), including those relating to hardship (bullying and deviance);
Part IV – Operational tools, dedicated to the compilation of PDP and PEI models based on ICF.
All chapters are enriched by final summary sheets in which the essential points of each topic are focused through key words to allow a quick review of the fundamental contents. The Manual is also accompanied by numerous online resources for further study.
