The reform of the highway code - news 2025

After a rather troubled process, the new long-awaited Reform of the Highway Code has been approved, which however, despite the long period dedicated to the preparatory discussion for its enactment, is fragmented and complex, introducing various changes to the Highway Code ranging from the abandonment of animals to cycling mobility, without however offering a clear overall vision. The reform comes into force on 12/14/2024 but many rules postpone their effectiveness to future implementing decrees, demonstrating once again the difficulty of simplifying such a crucial regulatory framework for everyone, professionals and citizens. The text introduces important innovations such as the regulation of scooters and new measures against driving under the influence of drugs , the new accessory clause of the short suspension of the license .
